Art is not a hobby to me

Today I learned that I’m not going to be anything
I’m going to be a starving artist
Broken with nobody there for me
With only a few measly cents in my pockets
Worthless pennies and equally annoying dimes
Even though I know more than my teacher’s think
I can tell you the biggest problems with human society
And why graduation being a requirement is stupid
I can tell you every way the school system can be improved
But I can’t understand math
I can't remember a chapter I read in a book
nor hand in my work
And school doesn’t want me to explain every detail about a world I can create
Or everything I learn from education channels on YouTube
Because I don’t hand in my work
And the only reason they care about that
Is because they put too much faith in me
To understand that my answer is most likely the same
As it was the year before
And because my plan is not to sit alone
In a white wash building
Full of men in suits
Typing up files
Doesn’t mean my plan
Is to sit alone

Because I plan to impact the world
I don’t plan on doing nothing
The pen is mightier than the sword
Because the pen started the war
You can tell me that art is meaningless
You can tell me I have no ambition
But you forget
Art is a profession
It’s a job that requires passion
Creativity
Inspiration
And patience
Art is not a hobby to me
Because I can make it a living
I simply need baby steps
Because I’m not eager the graduate
Doesn’t mean I’m not eager to work
I just do different work from you
